I wanted to share something a little more personal —something that explains why I chose to become a mortgage agent in the first place.
10 years ago, my wife and I bought our first home. Like most people, we started by going to our bank to understand our options and get pre-approved.
To be honest, the experience was incredibly frustrating.
We were asking what felt like simple, reasonable questions—how interest rates actually work, what our payments would look like, and what we could realistically afford. But clear answers were hard to come by. The process felt vague and transactional. It was more like, “give us a number and we’ll tell you if it works,” rather than someone taking the time to help us truly understand the bigger picture.
At the time, we didn’t even consider speaking with a mortgage broker or agent. Like many Canadians, we had the wrong impression. We assumed it meant higher fees, more complexity, or being pushed toward risky lending options you sometimes hear about in the news.
Looking back, that couldn’t have been further from the truth.
That experience stuck with me. It opened my eyes to a gap in the industry—the difference between what people actually need when making one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives, and what they often receive. Most people aren’t just looking for a rate. They’re looking for clarity, guidance, and confidence.
That realization is what ultimately led me to this career.
Now, eight years in, my focus is simple: to make sure every client understands their options and can clearly see the numbers behind each decision. I take the time to walk through scenarios, explain how everything works, and answer questions thoroughly—so there are no surprises.
Because getting a mortgage shouldn’t feel confusing or overwhelming. It should feel clear and well thought out.
